Hi, I’m Toban Penner — a web designer and developer based in Durham, NC, and the guy behind Penner Web Design. I specialize in custom WordPress themes and templates, and I love the challenge of tailoring every site to match the exact needs of the people behind it. Whether it’s solving complex problems, cleaning up messy code, or crafting a brand-new digital home from scratch, I’m all in. If you can dream it, I can build (and probably improve) it.
At heart, I’m a problem solver — someone who loves turning chaos into clarity. I live for the moments when a website just clicks — technically sound, visually striking, and genuinely useful.
When I’m not immersed in WordPress, you’ll likely find me camping, playing pickleball, or hanging out with my amazing family. I’m married to Kate Bowler, author, professor, and all-around remarkable human. Together, we’re raising our son Zach, a history buff, budding backyard archaeologist, and baseball enthusiast with a powerful swing and a deep love for digging epic holes.
I love retro games, good design, clean code and solving digital problems. I believe websites should be fast, accessible, and beautiful. And I’m here to help make yours exactly that.
AI had become my partner. Using it has made what is possible so much greater and faster than before. I’m now able to solve problems that were too expensive to solve previously.

Things I Love
Just a little window into what I love.
My son Zachary. He’s not afraid to be himself, and I love that. His hobbies and interests change weekly, but he takes after his mom with his big heart, curiosity and love of life.
Adventure. I’m married to a professor and I have a work from anywhere type of situation. So I’m usually doing working from somewhere fun.
My wife Kate. I’ve been married for 22 years and she is awesome. She’s a professor at Duke University and is the most thoughtful, caring person I know. She’s a superstar and you should go check her out. katebowler.com
Other things I’m into at the moment? Pickleball (yes, this is what it has come to), Hockey, Golf, Fitness, Guitar, Friends and Family. I love Canada AND America. But my first love is Canada
